‘Trip The Wire’ is het vierde album van Ed Laurie en is de opvolger van ‘Cathedral’ dat erg goed werd ontvangen in Nederland. Om zijn tour na de release van ‘Cathedral’ te bekostigen deed Ed een modellen campagne voor het merk French Connection. Tijdens de tour kwam hij met mede muzikanten Andrea Polato, Marco Stagni en Matteo Cuzzolin op het idee voor ‘Trip The Wire’. Het doel: hun individuele muzikale stijlen en smaken samenbrengen tot een heel sterk, mooi muzikaal geheel. ‘Trip The Wire’ werd opgenomen in Italie en doet met vlagen denken aan muziek van Jeff Buckley, Morphine en Sparklehorse.
Wat Ed Laurie onderscheidt van de vele singer-songwriters die de wereld momenteel rijk is is de variatie van verschillende stijlen waarmee hij zijn ziel blootlegt. Jazz, rock, psychedelic, blues en zelfs flamenco passeren de revue. Ed Laurie over ‘Trip The Wire’: “As I started to write the songs my friend and co-producer Richard Neuberg noticed I was in a particular frame of mind. He gave me a copy of John Gray’s book, “Straw Dogs”. I began reading and knew immediately it was a timely intervention… What is a Straw Dog? A Straw Dog is a Chinese ceremonial offering to the Gods, intricately carved out of straw over a period of several months. Once the ceremony is over the Straw Dog is disposed of, thrown to the fire or tossed into the rubbish pile… I saw that as a good place to start a renewed acceptance of life, and from that place, to write this next album”
Op 4 oktober komt de EP ‘Forever’s Untrue’ uit. Het album ‘Trip The Wire’ zal dit najaar volgen.
