The Black Keys hebben afgelopen week hun nieuwe single ‘Beautiful People (Stay High)’ uitgebracht. Naast de nieuwe single heeft de Amerikaanse band ook de releasedatum hun nieuwe album ‘Ohio Players’ bekend gemaakt. Binnenkort zullen The Black Keys de aankondiging van hun album opvolgen met de bekendmaking van een internationale tour.
‘Beautiful People (Stay High)’ werd geschreven door The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach en Patrick Carney, met de hulp van oude vrienden Dan ‘The Automator’ Nakamura en Beck. Het is één van de vele nummers op het album die in samenwerking met verschillende vrienden en collega’s werd gemaakt, waaronder Noel Gallagher en Greg Kurstin.
Over de samenwerkingen zegt Carney: “We had this epiphany: We can call our friends to help us make music! It’s funny because we both write songs with other people – Dan all the time [as a solo artist and producer], me when I’m producing a record. That’s what we do.”
Auerbach voegt eraan toe: “No matter who we work with, it never feels like we’re sacrificing who we are. It only feels like it adds some special flavor. We just expanded that palette with people we wanted to work with. We were there to support them and their ideas, to do whatever we could to see that moment flourish. But when it came time to finish the album, it was just Pat and me.”
“We’d never worked harder to make a record,” vervolgt hij. “It’s never taken us this long to make an album. We took our time and did it right.”
Eerder kondigde het Amerikaanse muziek- en filmfestival SXSW de wereldpremière aan van de nieuwe documentaire ‘This is a Film About The Black Keys’. De film volgt de opmerkelijke reis van Dan en Patrick, van twee buurtkinderen die in een kelder in Ohio aan het jammen waren tot rock ’n roll supersterrendom.
‘Ohio Players’ is verkrijgbaar vanaf 5 april 2024.
