The Kinks, een van de grootste Britse rockbands ooit, vervolgt de viering van het 60-jarig jubileum van hun illustere muzikale reis met deel twee van hun carrièrebepalende bloemlezing.
Na de release van ‘The Journey – Part 1’ in maart van dit jaar (met hits als ‘You Really Got Me’, ‘Waterloo Sunset’, ‘All Day And All Of The Night’, ‘Supersonic Rocket Ship’ en ‘Dead End Street’) volgt nu ‘The Journey – Part 2’, samengesteld door de band zelf, en komt beschikbaar in de formaten 2CD, 2LP, Digitaal en HD Digitaal. De fysieke formaten bevatten een boekje met bandfoto’s, een track-by-track en aantekeningen geschreven door de originele leden Ray Davies, Dave Davies en Mick Avory, die hiermee hun herinneringen aan die tijd delen en deze verweven hebben in het ongelooflijke verhaal van The Kinks.
‘The Journey – Part 2′ bevat singles, B-kantjes, albumtracks en maar liefst zes nieuwe Ray Davies-mixen, waaronder drie niet eerder uitgebrachte live opnamen in het New Victoria Theatre in Londen uit 1975.
De grote hits op deze release zijn onder meer: ’Lola’, ‘Sunny Afternoon’, ’20th Century Man’, ‘Dedicated Follower Of Fashion’, ‘Till The End Of The Day’, ‘A Well Respected Man’, ‘See My Friends’ en ‘Everybody’s A Star (Starmaker).
Ray Davies: “I thought I knew everything about my songs until I was given the opportunity to put this record together. The new sequencing has enabled us to show the ‘big picture’ and give a more insightful back story about how our music evolved. I learned a lot about myself in putting this together.”
Dave Davies: “Another chance to listen to some of my favourite Kinks releases over the years. A perfect example of our diverse and creative musical legacy.”
Mick Avory: “A strong selection of Kinks songs across the years, that should give the listener some nice surprises.”
De songs op ‘The Journey – Parts 1 & 2′, voor de eerste keer ooit in een Kinks-collectie, zijn zorgvuldig uitgekozen door Ray, Dave en Mick zelf. De nummers zijn samengesteld op basis van thema’s geïnspireerd door de beproevingen op hun reis door het leven samen als band, sinds 1963. De nummers zijn afkomstig van de klassieke, originele Kinks-albums, waaronder ‘Face To Face’, ‘The Kink Kontroversy’, ‘Something Else’, ‘The Village Green Preservation Society’, ‘Lola Versus Powerman and The Moneygoround’, ‘Muswell Hillbillies’, ‘Everybody’s In Show-Biz’, ‘Preservation Acts 1 & 2’ en ‘A Soap Opera’.
Alle songs zijn zorgvuldig geremasterd door Kevin Gray in Cohearent Studios in LA, onder toezicht van Andrew Sandova.
