Op 4 juli brengt de Amerikaanse band Chicago “NOW” CHICAGO XXXVI uit. Het is het 36ste album van de iconische band die dit jaar zijn 47-jarige bestaan viert en bevat 11 nieuwe nummers. Het album is geproduceerd door de oprichters van de band bestaande uit Robert Lamm (keyboard, zang, gitaar), Lee Loughnane (trompet, gitaar, percussie, zang), James Pankow (trombone, percussie, keyboard, zang), Walter Parazaider (houtblazer, achtergrond zang), Jason Scheff (bass, zang), Tris Imboden (drum, percussie), Keith Howland (gitaar, zang), Lou Pardini (keyboard, zang) en Walfredo Reyes Jr. (percussie). De band nam de nieuwe plaat op via ‘The Rig’, een speciaal gepersonaliseerd mobiel opnamesysteem.
Robert Lamm is blij met het resultaat: “There’s certainly more context, and there’s more musical ability, and perception rather than youthful naivete that we had when we started.” Lee Loughnane vult aan: “Thank goodness, we have 46 years of track record behind us. We’re just trying to grow the legacy even more.” Walter Parazaider over de tour: “Outside of being creative and making new music, going out, doing even better shows, I think we’ve put together a show right now that’s the best one we’ve ever had out there, which, as long as that curve is going up, I don’t think we have to sit back and re-assess things.”
Chicago werd in 1967 oorspronkelijk opgericht als Chicago Transit Authority maar moest de naam op last van de CTA afkorten naar Chicago. Gedurende het bestaan van de band sleepten ze 47 gouden/platina platen in de wacht en scoorden hits met nummers als ‘If You Leave Me Now’, ‘Hard To Say I’m Sorry’ en ‘Feeling Stronger Every Day’.
James Pankow is blij dat mensen na 47 jaar nog steeds hun muziek ontdekken: “47 years later and to think that people – young people especially, but all ages, are actually still discovering Chicago’s music! People have become fed up with all of the robotic programmed junk and they come to our shows to hear and witness the real thing – gifted veteran musicians with serious chops – no smoke and mirrors or lip-syncing. Wow, what a concept!”
