The Mars Volta werd opgericht in 2001 in El Paso, Texas na de break-up van At The Drive-in. Ze won een Grammy Award in 2009 voor Best Hard Rock Performance voor hun nummer “Wax Simulacra”. In september 2012 kondigde The Mars Volta al een pauze aan maar vanaf vandaag dat is opgewaardeerd tot een volwaardige break-up.
Marcel Rodriguez-Lopez en Deantoni Park hebben al de nieuwe band “Bosnische Rainbows” gevormd.
