De Noorse Thomas Dybdahl wordt vaak omschreven als een van de meest getalenteerde hedendaagse singer-songwriters. Op 24 februari verschijnt zijn nieuwe album ‘The Great Plains’, de langverwachte opvolger van ‘What’s Left Is Forever’ uit 2013, waarvoor hij in 2015 een Grammy nominatie ontving. Als onderdeel van zijn Europese clubtournee treedt Dybdahl op dinsdag 25 april live op in Paradiso in Amsterdam.
‘The Great Plains’ is met zowel akoestische als elektrische instrumenten opgenomen in Propeller Studios in Oslo. Het album laat zich beluisteren als een kruising tussen folk, pop en country met een vleugje jazz. Met zijn uiterst soepele en hoge falsetstem creëert Dybdahl een romantische en melancholische sfeer en gunt hij zijn luisteraars een kijkje in zijn gedachten.
“I’ve been lucky enough to write with some of my favorite musicians on this album and I cannot wait until February to share this music and go on tour with these wonderful songs. The songs on this album are mostly about being in a place in life where you suddenly have time to look in the mirror and into yourself, only to discover that you almost do not recognize the man looking back at you. Songs about the realization that you don’t know as well as you thought, songs about childhood, family and songs about those moments, that in their wake, you can clearly see what was important for everything that came afterward”, licht Dybdahl toe.
