PJ Harvey brengt op 15 april haar nieuwe album ‘The Hope Six Demolition Project’ uit. De eerste single ‘The Wheel’ is afgelopen vrijdag verschenen. De Britse zangeres is komende zomer te zien op het festival Down The Rabbit Hole in Beuningen (Gelderland).
De opvolger van ‘Let England Shake’ uit 2011 is vorig jaar opgenomen in London’s Somerset House. Tijdens een expositie getiteld ‘Recording In Progress’ liet PJ Harvey bezoekers toe tijdens de opnames van haar nieuwe studioalbum. In de album trailer, geregisseerd door Seamus Murphy, is te zien hoe het publiek vanachter een glazen wand de studio in kon kijken en zo PJ Harvey haar band en producers Flood en John Parish aan het werk zien.
De 46-jarige Britse zangeres haalde inspiratie voor ‘The Hope Six Demolition Project’ uit haar reizen naar Kosovo, Afghanistan en Washington die ze in de afgelopen vier jaar maakte. Ze vertelt hierover: “When I’m writing a song I visualise the entire scene. I can see the colours, I can tell the time of day, I can sense the mood, I can see the light changing, the shadows moving, everything in that picture. Gathering information from secondary sources felt too far removed for what I was trying to write about. I wanted to smell the air, feel the soil and meet the people of the countries I was fascinated with.”
