Op 18 mei a.s. verschijnt het nieuwe album van Plan B. Het album met de titel Ill Manors is het eerste album na de release van zijn viervoudig platina album The Defamation of Strickland Banks en is geproduceerd door Plan B zelf. ‘You could call Ill Manors “bass-line, soul, hip-hop.” The album has the lyrical depth of my first record but the musical composition is light years ahead as it’s informed by everything I’ve learnt in the last five years – writing, producing and playing with a live band. De eerste single van het album is de titeltrack Ill Manors. In deze single is een sample van de track Alles Neu van Peter Fox verwerkt. In de UK gaat het erg goed met de single. Zo staat deze daar in de top 10 van de singlecharts en op de A-List van Radio 1. Daarnaast noemde The Sun de single “impressive and smart political rap” en is het Zane Lowe´s ‘Hottest Record of The Week’. De single is door Plan B geschreven met de rellen in Londen van afgelopen zomer in gedachten. ‘I wrote this song to bring the issue back to the forefront of public conversation. I feel it has been swept under the carpet and forgotten about, and it still needs to be properly addressed. The point being made in my song Ill Manors is that society needs to take some responsibility for the cause of these riots. Voorafgaand aan Plan B´s nieuwe album wordt de gelijknamige full length film Ill Manors uitgebracht. De film komt op 4 mei a.s. uit en is geschreven en geregisseerd door Plan B zelf.
Het allereerste idool van Plan B, wiens echte naam Ben Drew is, was Michael Jackson. Tijdens zijn tienerjaren in Londen werd Ben wat rebels en kwamen daar andere liefdes bij: Ian Wright en Arsenal FC, jungle en hiphop, The Prodigy en punk. “Growing up in London, you’ve got to be pretty tough, you’ve got to let people know that they can’t fuck with you.” licht hij toe.
