Oxfordse alt-indie-folk band The Epstein brengt op 26 april het album genaamd ‘Murmurations’ uit. Op 31 mei zijn ze in Utrecht voor een show in Tivoli Spiegelbar.
The Epstein zag het levenslicht in 2006 toen singer/songwriter Olly Wills deelnam aan ‘Open Mic’ avonden samen met gitarist Jon Berry. Ze namen samen het album ‘The Last of The Charanguistas’ op dat door Rolling Stone Magazine werd gekozen als ‘Editors Choice’ wat ze een plekje op Glastonbury garandeerde. Inmiddels is The Epstein uitgebreid met toetsenist en producer Sebastian Reynolds, bassist Humphrey Astley en drummer Tommy Longfellow. Dit heeft het geluid van de band dusdanig veranderd naar een vol Morricone-achtige vibe.
‘Murmurations’ is opgenomen in ruim 14 maanden in Londen en Bremen. Het is een afwijking van het ruwe live geluid van hun vorige release en legt de band op hun meest majestueuze wijze vast.
“We weren’t looking to catch the live performance, which is what we obsessed over in previous recordings. We wanted this to be the style of us in the studio with the time and thought that go into the process. We wanted this to be grand, to be sweeping, to be epic and to be cinematic in scope.”
