Death From Above brengt in september hun derde studio-album ‘Outrage! Is Now’ uit. Het Canadese duo Sebastien Grainger (zang/drums) en Jesse F. Keeler (bas, toetsen, synths) staat bekend om hun punkified disco rock en weet ondanks de beperkte bandbezetting een uiterst vol, krachtig en energiek (en vooral live vaak een verpletterend) geluid neer te zetten.
Met ‘Outrage! Is Now’ begint het tweetal aan een nieuw hoofdstuk. Sebastien zegt hierover: “We are committed to evolution. This record is the sound of the two us pushing at the walls. We want there to be space, surprises and action!” En Jesse vult aan: “We both wanted to see how far we could take our sound as Death From Above. In a way, that has always been our objective.”
De eerste ideeën voor ‘Outrage! Is Now’ kwamen al boven drijven toen ze de opnames van hun tweede album ‘The Physical World’, dat in 2014 verscheen en met veel triomf werd ontvangen door de internationale toonaangevende muziekpers, nog moesten afronden. Vorig jaar werden deze ideeën omgezet in demo’s waarmee ze naar Los Angeles afreisden om samen te werken met producer en engineer Eric Valentine (o.a. Queens Of The Stone Age).
Over het resultaat vertelt Jesse: “I hope fans hear the progression. This record is very much the result of the environment and experiences of the last five years. If we didn’t have struggle, life would be really fucking boring. These songs are a anti-boredom manifesto.”
Waarna Sebastien toevoegt: “’Outrage! Is Now’ meant to be felt on both a visceral and emotional level. We tried to make something that excites and surprises. Our journey is that of enlightenment and seeking truth. There’s enough fiction and meaningless distractions in the world to make you totally shut off. We hope this record turns you on.”
