In 1967 tekende een 24-jarige Aretha Franklin bij Atlantic Records. Dit jaar viert het Rhino label het 50-jarige jubileum van Franklin met de mogelijkheid om haar klassieke Atlantic masters te horen zoals nooit tevoren. Op ‘A Brand New Me’ hoor je de direct herkenbare originele vocals en de meest iconische nummers die de Queen of Soul voor Atlantic Records heeft opgenomen, gecombineerd met nieuwe muzikale arrangementen uitgevoerd door The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
Onder de bekende nummers zijn nieuwe versies van klassiekers als #1 hits ‘Respect’, ‘Think’, ‘Don’t Play That Song (You Lied)’ en ‘Angel’. Het album werd geproduceerd door Nick Patrick en Don Reeman, de masterminds achter het wereldwijde succes van ‘If I Can Dream: Elvis Presley With The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra’ waarvan al meer dan anderhalf miljoen exemplaren zijn verkocht.
Nick Patrick zegt: “There is a reason that Aretha Franklin is called the ‘Queen of Soul’. There is nothing more exciting than that incredible voice taking you on an emotional roller coaster ride through her amazing repertoire of songs. To have the opportunity to work with that voice on this project has been the greatest honor and to hear a symphony orchestra wrapped around those performances is breathtaking.”
