13 september is de verjaardag van de in 1944 geboren Don Fagenson. Als zijn alias Don Was was Was de ene Was van het duo Was (Not Was). Was (Not Was) was in de jaren ’80 succesvol met nummers als ‘Spy in the House of Love’ en ‘Walk the Dinosaur’. Zeker dat laatste nummer is een eigen leven gaan leiden; verschillende malen is het nummer gebruikt in films, waaronder ‘Super Mario Bros’, (Door George Clinton), ‘The Flintstones’, ‘Theodore Rex’, ‘The Dream Team’ en ‘Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs’ (door Queen Latifah).

Ook was Don Fagenson producer van een hele rij artiesten, waaronder The Rolling Stones, Bonnie Raitt, Bob Dylan, John Mayer, Ziggy Marley, Al Green, Garth Brooks, Ringo Starr, Iggy Pop, Joe Cocker, Hootie and The Blowfish, Willie Nelson, Elton John, Stevie Nicks, George Clinton, Randy Newman, The Black Crowes, Brian Wilson, Roy Orbison, Richie Sambora, The Presidents of the United States of America, B.B. King, Poison, Cheb Khaled, The B-52’s, Zucchero en Solomon Burke.
Als producer won Don Fagenson verschillende Grammy Awards. Sinds januari 2012 is hij directeur bij een van de meest legendarische platenlabels: Blue Note Records.
